01Understanding Gambling Risks
Every casino game — slots, blackjack, roulette, crash games and live dealer tables — is a game of chance with a built-in house edge. Over time the house keeps a share of what is wagered, so losing is a normal outcome, and no system, pattern or "hot streak" can change that. Winning sessions happen, but they are not a way to earn money.
- Set a budget before you play and treat it as the cost of entertainment.
- Set a time limit too — fast games such as slots and crash games make it easy to play longer than planned.
- Never chase losses or play to pay off debts.
- Avoid gambling when you are stressed, low, or have been drinking.
GameSense has plain-language guides to how odds and the house edge work for each type of game.
02Minimum Age
You must be 18 or older to open an account and gamble online in Alberta. The age confirmation on your first visit is only a first step: every date of birth is checked against government-issued photo ID during identity verification, before any real-money play.
Accounts found to belong to anyone under 18 are closed. If children use your computer or phone, keep your login details private and consider using parental-control software or the controls built into your device.
03Recognizing Problem Gambling
Problem gambling can affect anyone, and it often builds slowly. Ask yourself honestly whether any of these sound familiar:
- You spend more money or time on gambling than you planned to.
- You chase losses, or gamble to win back money you have lost.
- You borrow money, sell things or miss bills because of gambling.
- You hide your gambling from family or friends, or feel guilty about it.
- You feel restless or irritable when you try to cut down.
- Gambling is affecting your work, studies, sleep or relationships.
If one or more apply, it is a good moment to pause. Use the tools below, and talk to someone — free support in Alberta is confidential and available around the clock.
04Deposit Limits
A deposit limit caps how much you can add to your account in a day, week or month, in CAD. Once you reach it, the cashier will not accept further deposits until the period resets.
Lowering a limit applies immediately. Raising it, or removing it, only takes effect after a 7-day cooling-off period, and the pending increase is shown in your account in the meantime. Setting a limit before your first deposit is a good habit.
05Loss Limits
A loss limit caps how much you can lose — your total bets minus your winnings — over a day, week or month. When you reach it, you cannot place further real-money bets until the period resets, even if you still have a balance.
Loss limits follow the same rule as deposit limits: a lower limit applies at once, and a higher limit only applies after 7 days. Many players set a loss limit lower than their deposit limit, so that a single session cannot use up their whole budget.
06Session Limits
A session limit sets the maximum number of minutes per day you can spend playing. When the time is used up, games close for the rest of the day and you are told why.
Time passes quickly in casino games, especially on slots and live tables where rounds follow one another without a break. As with other limits, shortening your session time takes effect immediately and lengthening it waits 7 days.
07Reality Checks
A reality check is a reminder that appears while you play, every 15, 30 or 60 minutes, showing how long you have been playing. It gives you a natural moment to decide whether to keep going, take a pause or stop for the day.
You can turn reality checks on, change the interval or switch them off in your account at any time. They work alongside your session limit — the reminder helps you notice the time, and the limit stops play when the time is up.
08Cooling-Off Periods
If you want a short pause, you can take a break of 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. During a break you cannot deposit or play. A break starts immediately and cannot be ended early, so choose a period you are comfortable with.
When the break ends, your account reopens automatically. If you find you need a longer pause, self-exclusion is the stronger option.
09Self-Exclusion
Self-exclusion closes your access to gambling on Casino Days for a fixed period. It is meant for players who want a firm stop, and it cannot be shortened or cancelled once it starts.
How to request it
- Log in and open your account, then go to Responsible gambling → Self-exclusion.
- Choose a period and confirm. The exclusion starts immediately.
- If you cannot log in, or would rather talk it through, contact support and we will set it up for you.
Available periods
- 6 months
- 1 year
- 5 years
What changes during self-exclusion
- You cannot deposit, play casino or live casino games, or join promotions.
- We stop sending you marketing messages and promotional offers.
- You can still log in to withdraw any remaining balance and contact support.
- Opening a new account during the period is not allowed; duplicate accounts are closed.
Contacting support
Our team can answer questions about how self-exclusion works, help you withdraw a balance, or explain what happens when the period ends. If you feel you need more time as the period comes to an end, you can choose a new self-exclusion period — and we encourage you to talk to one of the support services below. Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis (AGLC) also runs a voluntary self-exclusion program for gambling across Alberta; details are at aglc.ca.
10Account Restrictions
We may restrict an account ourselves when there is a reason to protect the player or meet our obligations — for example, when identity verification is incomplete, when the player appears to be under 18, when play is attempted from outside Alberta, or when we see signs of harmful gambling.
A restriction can limit deposits, play or promotions while we review the account, and we will tell you what is needed to resolve it. If you believe a restriction is a mistake, contact account support. If you need a restriction you cannot set yourself, ask the team and we will talk through the options with you.
